David Edwards Sworn In for First Term Representing HD 30
Rep. Edwards begins first day of session by supporting comprehensive ethics reforms

SALEM—David Edwards (D-Hillsboro) was sworn in Monday morning to his first term representing House District 30 in the Oregon House of Representatives.

Following his swearing-in, Rep. Edwards said he is committed to creating a cultural shift in state government that puts people above politics and ethics above electioneering. The first step in that process was the adoption of a set rules changes aimed at restoring credibility, transparency and independence of the legislature from undue influence.

These rules include the restoration and expansion of power given to the minority party to encourage full democratic debate, setting firm deadlines for completing the work of this legislative session, making proportional appointments to committees and banning gifts to legislators from groups or individuals with issues before the legislature, including:

  • items of value over $10
  • out-of-state travel and lodging
  • entertainment and sporting events
  • private restaurant meals

“Oregonians are counting on us to set this state on a new course,” said Edwards. “Adopting these rules changes are just the first step in that process and I look forward to our ongoing work to place these ethics reforms into law.”

In addition to working on ethics reform, Rep. Edwards has been appointed to serve on three Ways and Means Committees, including the Ways and Means Subcommittee on Education, the Ways and Means Subcommittee on Transportation and Economic Development and the Joint Ways and Means Committee.

“We have a lot of work to do,” said Rep. Edwards. “But together we can build a better economy that sustains living wage jobs and maintain a smart and accountable state government that Oregonians can trust. Serving my state and the people of my district as we work together to make this vision of Oregon a reality is a true honor.”
